Dominion Fiduciary Services Limited (DFSL) is launching its Bursary Scheme in Autumn 2005 and we are looking for one exceptional local student who is keen on pursuing a career in the finance industry.

We are looking for one talented and motivated young individual who is prepared to do real work within our organisation, handle real responsibility and be paid real money. The successful student will make a contribution to the team from Day 1 of their work placement and will move around our organisation and quickly build a broad understanding of our business.

Key Information

  • Our Bursary Award is for the duration of individuals’ studies and consists of £1,500 per annum payable in 3 instalments of £500 (per term) paid directly to the individual’s bank account.
  • Our academic requirement for acceptance onto our scheme is that students must have attained strong GCSE and A Level results which should evidence grades C and above and should include Maths and English.
  • As a minimum requirement we expect students to carry out a paid work placement of 6 weeks during the summer, during the months of July & August. The dates of the work placement will be agreed between the student and DFSG. In addition work will also be available during other University holidays subject to business needs.
  • The Bursary Scheme will not be considered for those students planning on taking a year out.
  • The scheme is only open to Jersey residents.
  • Applicants will be required to undertake the following as part of the selection process -:
    1. Competency Based Interview
    2. Completion of an Aptitude Test
    3. Delivery of pre prepared 10 minute presentation to the Executive Committee on a subject chosen by Dominion.

How much money will I receive?

You will receive £1,500 per academic year towards the cost of your course which will be paid in termly instalments directly into your bank account. During your work placements, you will receive £315 per week which will be paid monthly into your account.

Which schools do you accept applications from?

We welcome and accept students from all local schools, provided the students have the right academic abilities.

Are there any particular academic disciplines that you look for?

We are interested in students who have good attention to detail and who are studying or intending to study towards a Business or Finance related degree.

Where will I work?

Our offices are located at Charter Place, 23-27 Seaton Place, St Helier and we also have an office in London., Most of your work placements will be carried out in our Jersey office however they maybe the opportunity of spending some of your placement in our London office, subject to operating needs.

How many people work at DFSG?

We have more than 60 employees based in Jersey and 5 employees that work in our London office.

When will the work placements take place and for how long?

As a minimum requirement we expect you to complete a 6-week work placement each academic year. The work placement will take place in July & August each summer. However subject to operational needs there maybe the opportunity of working additional weeks during the University holidays. The dates of all work placements will be agreed between us and the student each year.

Do I get to make a real contribution during my work placements?

Absolutely. During the work placements you will be given responsibility and encouraged to be proactive and innovative.

Do I have to choose a particular business area when joining the Bursary Scheme?

No. During the work placements of the Bursary Scheme you will be placed in different areas of the organisation that satisfies the needs of the business. You will be moved around the organisation to ensure you get a broad exposure to some of the main business areas.

What guidance will I receive?

You will be allocated a buddy. A buddy is a member of our organisation who will be there to deal with day-to-day issues and/or any uncertainties that you may have during your work placements at DFSL.

What kind of culture does DFSL have?

We are a young and dynamic organisation that is in a period of rapid growth and expansion. We have a Sports and Social Committee that organise activities and outings which provide opportunities for staff to socialise together.

What happens at the end of the Bursary Scheme?

Provided the work placements have been successful during the Bursary Scheme, you will be offered permanent employment and a place on our Graduate Training Programme at the end of the Bursary Scheme and will be placed in areas of the business agreed between us and yourself, depending on your strengths and interests.

Can I take a year out?

No. We do not accept students on our Bursary Scheme that are planning on taking a year out prior, during or after University. After graduation, we allow a 3 month break before taking up employment with DFSL.

Is the Bursary Scheme likely to change?

Possibly. Due to the nature of our constantly evolving business, we may make ongoing changes to the Bursary Scheme to make it more flexible to meet the needs of the business. We also value your feedback.

What happens if I transfer courses or universities?

We ask you to inform us of any changes connected with your course or university. Provided that your course is relevant to the finance industry this should not pose a problem to your Bursary Award. All changes must be notified to DFSL in writing.

What happens if I fail my course?

If you fail your course, your situation will be reviewed separately. You may be liable to pay back all or part of the total amount paid to you from DFSL whilst studying at University.

What happens if after University I do not want to join DFSL?

You may be liable to pay back all or part of the total amount paid to you by DFSL whilst studying at University. Each situation will be reviewed separately and will be subject to Management discretion.
